Thoughtfully Crafted Words
A collection of poetry by Amreen Shaikh
Poet Amreen Shaikh has devised this collection of poems in order to “cast happiness and fervour” into the lives of poetry lovers from every walk of life.
She has experimented with an interesting mix of poetry forms, including the Japanese Haiku and Senryu, and the less well known (to me at least) African American Eintou. Very helpfully, she gives a little tutorial at the back of the book, explaining all the forms used.
Her collection touches on a variety of themes. If I were to find a common theme to unite them, it would be this: the beauty and fragility of nature, and of human relationships.
A highlight of the collection, for me, is a poem entitled “Withered Relations” taking the form of a Nonet:
